This year for the first time SISS Primary took part in the School Chess Tournament of Hessen for primary students. The team consisted of Alex DeBoer, Julian Merz, Sidharth Nair and Anton Goddard. Leander Merz was their back-up player. The team was accompanied by Mrs Iris Dittmar, youth chess group organizer from the chess club SV Schachforum Darmstadt 1994 e.V., where all the boys are training.
The competition took place on the 11th of December in the Erasmus Primary School Offenbach. Our SISS team was competing against two teams from the Erasmus School, two teams from Peter-Schöffer-School Gernsheim and a team from the Primary School in Weißkirchen.
Competing for first time in a school chess tournament they achieved great results winning:
3:1 respectively against Weißkirchen, Gernsheim 1, Erasmus 2 and
3,5:0,5 against Gernsheim 2.
The only team loss of 0:4 was against Erasmus 1 - an experienced team that has participated already several times in the previous years.
Our team came in third place behind Erasmus 1 and 2, with just 0,5
points difference from second place and 5,5 points ahead of forth place. First and second place continue up to the next round.
We would like to congratulate the team to a phantastic third place - we are very proud of their achievement! Hopefully, next year a new team from SISS Primary could take in their steps, since the four boys will then
be in Secondary School.
